Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta (Rome 1841 – Versailles 1920) was a 19th-century Spanish realist painter. He was the son and student Federico Madrazo, brother-in-law of the great Mariano Fortuny and grandson José de Madrazo. Some of his works are on display at some of Europe's greatest and most prestigious museums.
Biography
He studied painting under his father, Federico de Madrazo, and at the School of the Beaux Arts in Madrid[citation needed]. He was born in Rome, but after 1860 he lived mostly in Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Léon Cogniet, and eventually established a studio. His remarkable technical ability made him a highly successful portrait and genre painter in a Salon style.
