Notable Overseas Projects

KIGALI CITY MASTERPLAN in Rwanda [3]

Surbana Urban Planning Group master planned the 134.2 km2 Kigali city project in Rwanda. A blueprint was drawn up to strategically guide development, facilitate rapid economic growth by attracting investments, create employment, and position Kigali as a commercial hub of east-central Africa.

MKH WORLD in Kuala Lumpur [4]

MKH World is an integrated mixed development in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia that has 12 storeys of offices, 5 storeys of shops, 650 service apartments, as well as a street mall and plaza. It enjoys high visibility from passing traffic because of its strategic location along the North South Expressway.

Fujian Shishi Resettlement Housing in China [5]

The Shishi City Residence is the pilot startup parcel of the Shishi New City of Bliss masterplan. It comprises 1,150 residential units, an integrated neighbourhood mall, a kindergarten, and a primary school. This development seeks to create a premier living environment for residents, with the convenience of modern amenities.

THE LIGHT in Penang [6]

The Light is an commercial urban downtown development on 30 ha of reclaimed land designated to act as the main gateway to Penang island. It aims to redefine and reposition Penang as a significant destination within Malaysia, for both local and international visitors.

Surbana's design strives to reflect the essence of Penang as vibrant tapestry of life, with added focus given to its street food and business culture. The theme of light was used an inspirational thread to connect the different elements of the city – the architecture reflected the shimmering interplay of light on water or took inspiration from light travelling through a prism or crystal.

Notable Local Projects

TREELODGE @ PUNGGOL in Singapore [7]

Treelodge is the first public housing development in Singapore to achieve the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum award. The project has also won international awards such as the Green Good Design Award 2010 and the Futurac Green Leadership award 2011.

Treelodge is recognized for its environmentally friendly design, which maximises energy efficiency and reduces waste. It has a beautiful landscaped deck employed with hybrid green roof technology to reduce structural loading and has trees planted in the basement carpark that help to lower outdoor temperatures and a centralized chute for recyclable waste on every floor. The walls are made of concrete and foam, which decrease temperatures inside apartments and cut down the need for air-conditioning, thereby reducing electricity usage.

PASIR PANJANG RECLAMATION in Singapore [8]

Surbana engineered the Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT) reclamation, which involved reclaiming 200 ha of land to construct 15 new deep-water shipping berths – including the deepest in the world.

To protect the environmentally sensitive Labrador Nature Reserve adjacent to PPT, Surbana also designed and deployed a 1 km long cut off bund constructed by the innovative use of cement mixed soil and geo-textile tubes.
