The 2016–17 Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team represented Purdue University. Their head coach is Matt Painter, in his twelfth season with the Boilers. The team played its home games in Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, and are members of the Big Ten Conference.

Previous season

The Boilermakers finished the season 26–9, 12–6 in Big Ten play to finish in a four way tie for third place. They defeated Illinois and Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament to advance to the championship game where they lost to Michigan State. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where, as a #5 seed, they lost to Arkansas–Little Rock in the first round.
