The 2016–17 Regionalliga will be the ninth season of the Regionalliga, the fifth under the new format, as the fourth tier of the German football league system.

Regionalliga Nord
The season is planned to start on 31 July 2016.[1] Lupo Martini Wolfsburg was promoted from the 2015–16 Niedersachsenliga.[2]

The Regionalliga Nordost will start on 31 July 2016.[3] FC Energie Cottbus was relegated from the 2015–16 3. Liga.[4] 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Süd and FSV Union Fürstenwalde was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Nord.[5][6]

Regionalliga West
The season is planned to start on 29 July 2016.[7] Wuppertaler SV was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Niederrhein, Sportfreunde Siegen and TSG Sprockhövel was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Westfalen and Bonner SC was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Mittelrhein.[8][9][10][11]

Regionalliga Südwest
The Regionalliga Südwest will start on 5 August 2016.[12] VfB Stuttgart II and Stuttgarter Kickers was relegated from the 2015–16 3. Liga.[13] TuS Koblenz was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar, Teutonia Watzenborn-Steinberg was promoted from the 2015–16 Hessenliga and SSV Ulm 1846 was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.[14][15][16]

Regionalliga Bayern
VfR Garching was promoted from the Bayernliga Süd and SV Seligenporten was promoted from the Bayernliga Nord.[17][18] SpVgg Bayern Hof was promoted as they beat SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the 2015–16 Bayernliga promotion playoff.[19]
