The 77th Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best in film and American television of 2019, will be broadcast live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on January 5, 2020, by NBC. Produced by Dick Clark Productions and the HFPA, the ceremony will air live on NBC in the United States. Ricky Gervais will host the ceremony for the fifth time.[1]
The nominees were announced on December 9, 2019, by Tim Allen, Dakota Fanning, and Susan Kelechi Watson.[2][3] The nominations attracted criticism for the lack of women chosen: no women were nominated for Best Director or Best Screenplay, despite what was perceived as award-worthy work by Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers) and Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood).[4][5][6] The Alliance of Women Film Journalists nominated the HFPA for the AWFJ Hall of Shame Award for "excluding women nominees in major Golden Globe categories."[7]
