ALOR is an American luxury jewelry, watch and lifestyle brand founded by Jack and Sandy Zemer in 1979. ALOR specializes in designing, creating, and manufacturing 18kt gold, diamonds and cable pieces. Headquartered in San Diego, California.

History

Founded in 1979 in California by Designer and Chairman Jack Zemer, a former nuclear engineer at General Electric, and his wife, Sandy Zemer, ALOR was created to bring timeless yet artistically modern pieces the contemporary woman. The brand name was formed by combining the first names of the couple’s sons, Tal and Ori, who are now both Principals and Presidents of the company and oversee all aspects of the business. A family owned company, ALOR is the original creator of unique and signature designs that combine 18kt gold, diamonds and cable. ALOR first publicly displayed its nautical cable motif jewelry in the early 1980s, prior to any other person or entity doing so.[1] The brand, while devoted to women, dotes its inspiration and stylistic essence to the California landscape; Each ALOR piece is handcrafted.

In 1979, ALOR designed, created and manufactured stainless steel cable, 18-karat gold and diamond jewelry sold as “Alor.” From 1979-1992, ALOR sold under its own brand namesake featuring its innovative collections of cable jewelry.[2]

In 1992, ALOR began a partnership with Phillipe Charriol International and formed Charriol USA. While ALOR International Ltd. remained the parent company, all ALOR jewelry designs were branded and sold throughout and U.S. and the Caribbean as Charriol USA. The partnership ended in early 2014, with ALOR International Ltd. reverting to their original brand name of ALOR. With the transition back to the ALOR brand name, the company remained confident that their consumers would take to the change.[3] To debut the ALOR® rebrand, the company released a national ad campaign featuring model Noot Seear and photographed by Justin Coit.

In 2009 ALOR was nominated and honored in the Family-owned & Closely-Held Business awarded by the university of San Diego and the San Diego business journal.

International expansion began in 2012 and now ALOR sells to retailers in the Dubai, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico and Australia.

In 2013, Zemer brothers and Principals, Ori and Tal, launched ALOR Swiss Watches. The watches feature ALOR signature details such as the stainless steel cable bands and 18 karat gold and diamond embellishments.[4]

Both jewelry and watch lines are sold through independent retailers worldwide as well as national departments stores such as Nordstrom, Holt Renfrew, and Sidney Thomas.

Partnership with Campowerment

From November 2013 through 2014, ALOR partnered as the exclusive watch and jewelry sponsor for the all-women’s leadership and revitalization overnight camp, Campowerment.[5] As sponsors, ALOR provided regular giveaways awarding the ‘camper of the day’ a watch from their ALOR Swiss Watch collection. Alongside the giveaways, ALOR provided It’s About Time, It’s About Me relaxation lounges at all camp sessions, as well as ‘scholarships’ for women to attend other Campowerment retreats.[6]

Advertising Campaign

In 2015, ALOR unveiled a new advertising campaign that casted its jewelry as the star in Instagram-like imagery. In a departure from past campaigns featuring models or other high-profile face, ALOR made its cable jewelry the sole focus in new ads.[7] Instagram-like close-up shots of jewelry styled by the ALOR team on a female model- only her torso is visible- shows the viewers how to wear trends such as stacking rings, mix-and-match styles, layering, and more. The ads aim to drive home a real-world feel by way of the familiar youthful shots for which the popular social media platform is known.[8]
