António de Noronha was the 12th Captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Noronha was appointed in 1572 under Sebastian of Portugal; he was Captain-major until 1575. He was succeeded by Fernando de Albuquerque.[1] António de Noronha was also the Viceroy of Portuguese India between 3 September 1564 and September 1568. He captured Mangalore and built a fort there between 1564 and 1568.[2]
