The section of the Sieg Railway between Eitorf and Wissen through Au was opened on 1 August 1860.[2] On 1 May 1887, the branch was opened to Altenkirchen,[3] connecting with the Upper Westerwald Railway to Limburg and additional tracks was added at Au. In 1885 Au consisted of only four houses and 16 inhabitants.[4]
