Bassjackers is an electronic music duo, formed in 2007, consisting of Marlon Flohr & Ralph van Hilst, two Dutch DJs and producers.[1] They gained international success for their Electro House tracks. They reached Beatport top 100 with tracks such as "Savior", "Crackin" and "Wave your hands".[2]

Bassjackers release their tracks on labels such as Spinnin' Records, Revealed Recordings and Smash The House.

History

Musical beginnings (2007-2009)

Prior to their career as a DJ duo they were good friends and focused away from each other on their musical interests. However Flohr was much more laying in the field and van Hilst actively producing his own songs. In 2007 Flohr began increasingly incorporate the songs of a colleague into his live sets, until they decided to continue it as a solid duo. This resulted in the creation of the project "Bassjackers". In the following time they shared their skills and attracted both the production of their songs, as well as the performances by the duo.[3]

On several music platforms they released its own songs and alongside a large number of remixes. The first single was "Beat Cut". Already here, they also received a remix support from Dutch DJ and producer Sidney Samson. In 2008 they released "Enowapi" published through the record label Secure Recordings. This was followed by some more rather less well-known songs. The published in the autumn of 2009 remix of "Lets Go" by Sidney Samson in collaboration with Lady Bee & MC Bizzey made on the Internet for a lot of positive feedback and also DJs like Fedde le Grand became aware of the duo. Their name became known through its support with other DJs and there was also the first official remixes for famous performers, including Martin Solveig, Quintino and Ian Carey. Furthermore, they received many interpretations of their songs by internationally renowned producer.

First successes & recording contract (2010-2012)

In the course of 2010 DJ legend Tiësto expressed strong interest in Bassjackers and began working with them. There was a podcast episode together with the duo and an offer to include them on his label Musical Freedom. They signed a recording contract and began with the first productions. On April 25, 2011 the single "Mush Mush" appeared on Beatport. The track was in contrast to their past rather less well-known singles, a huge success and reached after a short time the top 10 of the Beatport charts, where it stayed for over two months. Furthermore, it was played by DJs like Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and the Swedish House Mafia in their sets. A few months later a remix EP of the worldwide hit Maximum Crazy by Tiësto came, in which Bassjackers' mix was found, which dominated the success of the EP. A double single entitled "Brougham / Contour" with producer Apster could connect in any way, held due to the publication on Afrojack's label Wall Recordings even more in the background.

In 2012 the duo put on on numerous festivals and began to tour the United States. One of the appearances took place on March 24, 2012 at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. This is considered as one of their first big concert. Furthermore they accompanied Robbie Rivera when multiple sets. During their speech at the EDC Vegas they played beside their track "Mush Mush" their next single "Hey", which is a collaboration with the Dutch DJ duo Showtek. The release was postponed and the publication of their Angger Dimas collaboration went on. The single "RIA" was published on March 19, 2012 through Sander van Doorn's label Doorn Records. A few months later they released together with Yves V the single "Bronx" on August 13, 2012 through Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's label Smash the House. Mid-2012 Bassjackers left Musical Freedom and signed a contract with the Dutch successful label Spinnin' Records. In parallel, the duo presented the song "Let's Get Weird" for free download available. As of December 11, 2012, the Showtek collab "Hey" was ultimately available. The official music video already appeared shortly before and been viewed millions of times within a very short time.

Also in autumn 2012 the duo launched the podcast series Jackin Da Bass. This replaced the previous FunX Dance and debuted on October 20, 2012. This is around one-hour DJ mixes, consisting of Bassjackers' current favorites, their own singles and mash-ups. The consequences appear every Saturday and are usually called always several thousand times.

Breakthrough with ao Crackin' (2013-2014)

In 2013, Flohr and van Hilst started with a two-hour set at the New Year party at Dada country in New York. They played among other collaborations with Ferry Corsten and Kenneth G. Furthermore, numerous remixes were heard, including for The Wanted and Chuckie. Their collaboration with DJ and producer Dyro made their first release this year. The single was released on February 18, 2013 under the title "Grid". It followed the track "Duckface", a collaboration with Kenneth G. The on Duck face-based Selfie trend song was published in March 2013 through Bingo Players's label Hysteria, but could not build on the success of previous singles. However, the successor single "Collision" made in particular for positive feedback. The electro house track originated together with the Dutch producer Ferry Corsten. Originally, the song was released in March 2013 on among other SoundCloud. Official release in other music portals carried out one month later. For many, the quality of Bassjackers songs should have particular clearly improved in this single.

On July 15, 2013 they published "Raise Those Hands" together with the DJ and producer R3hab through Calvin Harris' label Fly Eye Records. The tack was a great success and the Bassjackers brought on a completely new track. They said goodbye to their otherwise very tech house-inspired style and started to produce electro house and big room. The duo played "Raise Those Hands" first time together with R3hab at the EDC Vegas. The performance is also seen in the official music video, which, although it did not appear on Spinnin' several million times was called. It was followed on July 26, 2013 by their first appearance at the largest EDM festival Tomorrowland in Belgium.[4] Next the single "Flag", a collaboration with Gregori, appeared rather less known. Much more attention was given to single "Zing", which was published on September 23, 2013. One of the special characteristics of this track is that on the one hand it contains a big room drop, but overshoots after the main part in a portion having the old Bassjackers style.

In fall of 2013, they started the studio working with Martin Garrix who achieved the worldwide hit "Animals" his breakthrough just this year. The single "Gamer", their first collaboration, was released on November 4, 2013 through Spinnin' Records. On January 20, 2014, the next collaboration entitled "Crackin'" followed. Until then, the single became their successful track. It includes both features of Bassjackers single "Zing" and by Martin Garrix's "Animals"and "Wizard". Crackin' appeared in two variations, firstly in a Bassjackers version and in a Martin Garrix version. The Bassjackers version was provided for free download while Garrix's version came in second of the Beatport charts as actual single version for a long time and thus represents the first peak position of the duo. Even an entry in the Dutch singles chart succeeded. The official music video reached on Spinnin' TV over 10 million visits.

Genre exchange & collaborations with DJs (2014-2015)

On February 10, 2014, the track "Battle" was released in cooperation with the Dutch DJ and producer Jordy Dazz through Doorn Records. As follow-up single, a collaboration with the successful producer MAKJ was released. The track is the title "Derp" and differs from the style slightly from the previous track. Hereby they sat next to the typical big room kick also features the Dirty House. The song was released on April 28, 2014 through Hysteria. The single "Rampage", another collaboration with Kenneth G, was released on August 15, 2014 through Hardwell's label Revealed Recordings. The song was a success and has clear Dirty House style. The track was decisive for the further development of their style and received almost exclusively positive feedback. On July 27, 2014, it appeared on the Smash the House stage on the second time at Tomorrowland in Belgium. With "Like That" they published the more successful successor single through Smash the House. The drop is very similar to the single "Rampage", but differs even more from the area of the Dirty Dutch.

On October 17, 2014 Bassjackers published another solo single titled "Savior". Also, this was praised by fans and reached a high Beatport placement. As record label turned to several releases on other labels another times Spinnin' out why the title was much more promotion. With the single "X", which was produced together with Dyro and released on December 15, 2014, they took the opportunity due to the support of a rather less known record label, WOLV Records to use their original music style. The single "Savior" yet received strong support from among others, Martin Garrix, Hardwell and W&W. With "Wave Your Hands" followed as their first track in 2015 a collaboration with Thomas Newson. Through it was released through Smash the House the track was already previously used by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike in their sets. The performers were at that time not yet known. While style has been assigned to Bassjackers immediately, but as a collaboration partner Niles Hollowell-Dhar suspected alias KSHMR. The single "Wave Your Hands" also been referred to as high-big room track and became their first number one hit on Beatport.[2]

On February 20, 2015 Afrojack played at Ultra Music Festival Argentina for the first time the song "What We Live For", a collaboration between him and the Bassjackers. Already there it trickled positive review and it appeared many recordings of the song on the Internet. In particular, the collaboration was called due to the similar music styles as great. Release date was April 13, 2015. The single "Alarmo", which a collaboration with the Dutch DJ and producer Brooks, was released on May 25, 2015 through Showtek's label Skink. The track was especially promoted by KSHMR and also received almost exclusively positive feedback. Hereby, the melody and the build-up of lead was just praised. The drop corresponds to the Dirty Dutsch style of Bassjackers. In parallel Bassjackers celebrated with their remix of "Higher Place", the Belgian DJ brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike together with Ne-Yo great success, as this proved to be very suitable for festival and was offered by Shazam cooperation from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike for free download.

Furthermore a track garnered several clicks from the fifth episode of KSHMR's podcast "Welcome to KSHMR" on YouTube. For now, this has been understood that it was a question of his long-awaited Vicetone collab, but this proved a mistake and the track turned out to be a collaboration with the Bassjackers. The vocals were the American singer Sirah that by the worldwide success Bangarang together with Skrillex is known assigned. The big room drop, however, was strong compared with the songs "Mammoth" and "Waves" of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and W&W. From July 2015 a promotion campaign ran published on August 31, 2015, with "Memories" titled tracks.[5]

On August 24, 2015, the Italian producer Angemi invited a video on Facebook, do this at Martin Garrix's hit "Dragon" of Angemi itself in the style of other musicians was produced. Among them, was the so-called "Bassjackers" version. The basic melody of the song has been retained, but changed to earlier Bassjackers productions oriented style means fundamentally. Extracted stabbed in particular the drop that made this version the most popular of the video, which is why Angemi released the full version for download.[6] On October 10, 2015 Hardwell premiered in his podcast "Hardwell On Air" the production "Bring That Beat", based on their typical style. However, it was first used in this case, a new built-up of drops, whereby the track appeared individual. Furthermore, the publication of the song "Sound Barrier" is scheduled for the end of 2015. This is a collaboration with DJ and producer Coone. The special thing about the track is that it is based on a hardstyle basis.

On October 17, 2015 this make it the first time to place themselves in the DJ Mag Top 100 of best DJs. The duo here debuted at number 39.[7]
