Brandón Anthony Poltronieri Méndez (born January 18, 1986), is an American-born Costa Rican soccer player who currently plays for Arizona United SC.
Club career
Poltronieri was actually born in Los Angeles, California, but moved to Aserrí, Costa Rica at a young age.[citation needed] The midfielder began his professional career in 2008 as a member of Costa Rican side Brujas FC, where he would eventually play alongside current Silverbacks defender Ryan Roushandel.[citation needed]
While at Brujas FC, Poltronieri went out on loan to Leixões SC of the Portuguese top flight.[1] Following his stint in Portugal in 2009, he returned to Costa Rica, where he would play for two more clubs (Barrio México and Universidad de Costa Rica) from 2010-2013 before settling in at Carmelita.[2]
From January 2014, the former Costa Rica youth international was a key player for AD Carmelita, making 18 appearances and scoring 2 goals.[citation needed]
Poltronieri is a left-footed player that prefers playing left back, however, he can also be deployed as a left midfielder.[citation needed]
On February 11, 2015 Poltronieri signed with Ottawa Fury FC of the NASL.[3]
After the 2015 season, in which Poltronieri made 15 league appearances, he was re-signed by the club on December 14, 2015.[4] During pre-season the following spring, Poltronieri was sent off during a friendly against the Rochester Rhinos after getting into a scuffle with an opposing player. Head coach Paul Dalglish was reportedly very displeased by the incident and Poltronieri's role in it, and it was rumored that the player might be cut from the team as a result.[5] On March 26, 2016 it was confirmed via Twitter that Poltronieri had signed with Arizona United of the USL.[6]
