Callum Tapping (born 5 June 1993)[1] is a Scottish professional footballer, who currently plays for Queen of the South as a midfielder. He has previously played in the first teams of Hearts, Alloa Athletic and Brechin City.

Club career

Tapping played at youth level for Hamilton Academical and Celtic.[2] He attended Larbert High School, Stenhousemuir, where he left to join Tottenham Hotspur in 2009.[3] He initially playing for their under-18 team, making eight appearances. He was rewarded with his first professional contract in June 2010, and was promoted to the Premier Reserve League squad.[2] In all he made twenty seven appearances during season 2010–11.[4]

On 31 August 2011, he joined Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) on a two-year contract with the option for a further year,[5] initially joining up with the club's Under-19 Squad.[6] Prior to signing he had appeared as a trialist[7] for the club during the Keyline Challenge Cup Tournament in Oban, earlier in the year.[8]

In November 2012, he joined Alloa Athletic[9] on a month's loan to gain first team experience.[10][11] He made his debut on 17 November, coming on as a 67th-minute substitute in a league match against Brechin City.[12] Alloa were keen to extend his loan,[10] but he returned to Hearts after making four appearances.[13]

Tapping made his first team debut for Hearts[14] on 19 January 2013, coming on as a 71st-minute substitute[15] at Celtic Park in a Scottish Premier League match against Celtic, replacing Dylan McGowan in a 4–1 defeat.[16] He made his first start the following week in their Scottish League Cup Semi final win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.[17]

Tapping was released by Hearts in 2014, then spent an injury-affected season with Brechin City. He signed for Queen of the South in July 2015.[18]

International career

He was called up to the Scotland under-19 team and made his debut on 10 May 2011, against Denmark. He made his debut for the Scotland under-21s on 6 February 2013 against Greece.[19]

Personal life

Born in London to an English father and a Scottish mother, Tapping moved to Scotland at six years old. [22][23]
