Contents of this category should be reassigned to sub-categories: Category:Kabbalah, Category:Hasidic Judaism etc. as much as possible. Sometimes, however, one topic develops through the different eras of Jewish mysticism history. In academia, Kabbalah refers restrictively to the new mystical doctrines that emerged in 12th century France, developed in 13th century Spain, and were reformulated in 16th century Safed. Previous forms of Jewish mysticism in extant manuscript/literary record are designated by different titles: Merkabah mysticism, Chassidei Ashkenaz etc.
