In Nepal, except for the populous cities like Kathmandu, Birgunj, Pokhara and Nepalgunj, superstition has prevailed all across the country. Witchcraft is the worst form of superstition. During Elizabeth rule in early 1500s, millions of innocent civilians which included maximum number of women were savagely tortured and forced to confess themselves as witches. Majority of women were thrown into wells, lakes and ponds with hands tied in the belief that if the woman is innocent she would not drown. This led to enormous deaths.
