David Martin (English politician)

Early life
A barrister and farmer, Martin was educated at Kelly College, Tavistock and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.
Parliamentary career
Martin served as a Teignbridge District councillor from 1979-1983.
He served as the Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Portsmouth South from 1987 general election until 1997 general election, when he was beaten by the Liberal Democrat Mike Hancock. He stood again at the 2001 general election in the seat of Rugby and Kenilworth and at the 2005 general election in the seat of Bristol West but was unsuccessful on both occasions, having also previously stood for Yeovil in the 1983 general election.
Family
He is the uncle of Coldplay singer Chris Martin. He is the father of Cesca Major, author of THE SILENT HOURS.
