"Do I Scare You?" is a song by Shakespears Sister and Billy Mackenzie, originally recorded in 1996 for Shakespears Sister's album #3, which was not released until 2005. It was released as a limited edition single in 2011.
Background
"Do I Scare You?" was one of the last tracks to be recorded for #3, finished in 1996. Shortly after, in January 1997, Mackenzie committed suicide, making "Do I Scare You?" the very last thing he ever recorded.[1] The album was intended to be released the same year, but for a variety of reasons, Shakespears Sister was dropped from their label, London Records. In 2005 however, Siobhan Fahey, the act's only full member, was given full rights to the album, which was released through her website the same year.[1]
Although "Do I Scare You?" was Fahey's preferred choice as lead single from #3, London Records opted instead for "I Can Drive". When a new, limited expanded edition of #3 was released in late 2011, "Do I Scare You?" was released exclusively through Shakespears Sister's website in September 2011 as promotion on CD and digital formats.[2] The card inlay of the CD single also pays tribute to Mackenzie. Although the expanded edition has since received a full commercial release, "Do I Scare You?" has not, and the CD single is one of Shakespears Sister's rarest collectibles to date.
