Dorking Wanderers F.C. are a semi-professional football club based in Dorking, Surrey, England. The club is affiliated to the Surrey County Football Association.[1] They are currently members of Division One of the Isthmian Football League

History

The club was formed in 1999 and started playing in the Crawley and District Football League.[2] After their first season in the Crawley league they switched to the West Sussex Football League and immediately won the Division Four championship.[3] The club made further progress the following season when they finished as runners-up in Division Three gaining promotion to Division Two.[3] The club climbed the league ladder again two seasons later in the 2003–04 campaign when they finished as champions of Division Two.[3] The 2005–06 season saw the club clinch promotion to the top division of the West Sussex league when they finished third in Division one.[3]

In their second season in the Premier Division the club finished as champions and gained promotion to Division Three of the Sussex County Football League.[3] The promotion was made possible by the club moving to their current home of West Humble Playing Field, during the successful 2006–07 campaign.[3]

The club spent the next four seasons in Division Three of the County League, and gained promotion as champions at the end of the 2010–11 campaign.[4] The next season saw the club finish third and qualify for promotion to Division One, however the league denied them entry to the division as their ground was considered not suitable for that division.[5] However the club appealed against this decision to the F.A., and they overruled the decision after an independent ground grading visit confirmed that the ground reached the necessary standards for Division One football.[6]

In 2015, Wanderers were promoted to the Isthmian League Division 1 (South) having finished runners-up to Littlehampton Town F.C..[7] The club has become the dominant football club in Dorking and the surrounding areas as their six promotions in eight years has caused major interest, with the club now drawing in around 110 spectators per match with local rivals Dorking F.C. now playing out of town in Horley and playing at level 10 with the Wanderers Reserves.[citation needed]

In March 2016, Wandererers in effect rescued their local rivals Dorking F.C. from bankruptcy as they created the Dorking Football Alliance. This means that Dorking F.C. will play at Westhumble next season and that Wanderers will move to the renovated Meadowbank Stadium in the centre of the town after they proposed £4 million development set to commence on the site.

In May 2016 , the club launched the Dorking Wanderers Academy playing in the National Youth Conference Alliance.

Ground

Dorking Wanderers play their home games at Westhumble Playing Fields, London Road, Dorking, Surrey, RH5 6DB.

The club moved to the ground in 2007, and floodlights were installed in 2012.[2]

Westhumble Playing Fields is set to undergo major refurbishments as the club get closer to life in the "Ryman Premier League" with another stand set to be added to the East Side of the ground, as well as two turnstiles.
