Fraziers Bottom is an unincorporated community in Putnam County, West Virginia, United States. The community was named after a family of Fraziers who settled the area in the late 18th century after migrating there from Virginia. The area was attractive as there was abundant and fertile bottom land along the Kanawha River. As the Fraziers took possession of the rich bottom land, the area became known as Fraziers Bottom and the name has stood over the years, but for a brief period of time. A short-tenured postmaster renamed the community Ruby after his wife but the name was reversed soon thereafter. Eight generations of Fraziers have lived and worked there, with most being farmers until recent times. Fraziers Bottom was a quiet, rural area for decades, but that begin to change when Toyota built a manufacturing facility across the river in Buffalo. Affiliated light manufacturing has populated industrial parks in some of the very "bottomland" that gave the community part of its name. It is apparently the only place in the United States with this name.

References in popular culture

The 2004 movie Win a Date With Tad Hamilton! is largely set in a West Virginia community of the same name. However, the movie's Fraziers Bottom bears no resemblance to the actual Fraziers Bottom. The real community is far smaller than the one depicted in the movie. The movie shows a movie theater being in Fraziers Bottom and generally depicts the community as pleasant and wholesome. Much of the movie takes place in a Piggly Wiggly's grocery store. However, there is no Piggly Wiggly's in Fraziers Bottom although, there was one in the Logan area at the time and there is now a Piggly Wiggly in Milton, West Virginia.
