Harewood (/ˈhɛərwʊd/ HAIR-wuud) is a village and civil parish in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, West Yorkshire, England. The A61 runs through the village, from Leeds city centre in the south to Harrogate in the north. The A659 runs through the village from Collingham in the east, briefly joining the A61 to descend the slopes of the Wharfe valley before continuing towards Pool-in-Wharfedale in the west.

Harewood Estate

The village is mainly known for its vicinity to Harewood House (/ˈhɑːrwʊd/ HAR-wuud), a stately home, and is also home to the UK's longest motorsport hillclimb, Harewood speed Hillclimb (pronounced HAIR-wuud).
The exterior set for the soap opera Emmerdale is located within the Harewood estate.[1]
All Saints' Church

All Saints' Church, the former parish church, stands to the west of the village, within the grounds of Harewood House. The House was built in the 15th century, but the village was relocated in the late 18th century, leaving the church isolated from the village population. It is a grade I listed building. As it is no longer used regularly for worship, it is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
Facilities
Harewood C of E Primary School is a state-funded faith school which stands opposite the grounds of the Harewood estate on the A61 and was built by the Estate in 1864 for the estate workers' children. In 2005 and 2008 the school was awarded "Outstanding" grading following Ofsted inspections.[2] The school maintains its historic links with the Harewood Estate, with the children regularly using the grounds and educational facilities of the Estate.[3]
Gateways School is an independent (fee-paying) girls' school in the village, with sixth form. The junior school and nursery are co-educational, admitting both boys and girls to age 11.
There is a public house and hotel, the Harewood Arms, located near the entrance to the Harewood Estate.
Other facilities in the village include a Post Office,[4] a medical centre, and a village hall. Muddy Boots Cafe is a community cafe run in the village hall, which opened in December 2013 to provide cafe facilities for local people and visitors, and employment opportunities for local young people.[5]
