John Adrian Pienaar (born 2 October 1956) is a British journalist who is currently Deputy Political Editor for BBC News, and presenter of Pienaar Politics on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Early life
Pienaar's parents, Eric and Johanna Pienaar, were both born in the Netherlands. He was educated at Ravens Wood School in Bromley and then studied at Highbury College.[1]
Career
Pienaar began his journalistic career at South London Press, before becoming an Old Bailey correspondent and then writing an angling column, even though he himself was never an angler.[2] In the early 1990s, he was working as a political correspondent for The Guardian in the Press Gallery of the House of Commons.
Personal life
Pienaar married Denise Walsh in 1980 and they had a son and a daughter. They divorced and Pienaar married Penny Davies with whom he has two children.[citation needed]
He is an avid supporter of Crystal Palace.[citation needed]
