Career

Hughes-Mason started his career at the age of seven as a youngster with Arsenal, where he played in the same team as Jack Wilshere.[2] At the age of fourteen, he was let go by Arsenal for being too small.[2] He then joined rivals Tottenham Hotspur where he spent a year, but was released after not being handed a scholarship.[2] Millwall offered Hughes-Mason a scholarship after he had impressed against them playing for Spurs.[2] Hughes-Mason made his professional debut in August 2009 at the age of 17,[3] and spent a loan spell at Cheltenham Town in early 2010. In July 2010, he went on trial with Swindon Town.[4] Hughes-Mason spent the month of August 2010 on loan at Tooting & Mitcham United, and returned to the club, again on loan, in November 2010.[5] He signed on loan for Chelmsford City in February 2011,[6] making six appearances.[7] At the end of the 2010–11 season, Hughes-Mason was released by Milwall.[8]

Hughes-Mason went on trial with Burton Albion in late July 2011,[9] and trialled with Grimsby Town two weeks later, playing in a friendly match against Brigg Town.[10] Hughes-Mason re-signed with Tooting & Mitcham United on non-contract terms, before moving to Kettering Town in October 2011.[11]

Hughes-Mason returned to Grimsby Town on 6 January 2012 signing until the end of the season.[12] After playing 11 times, scoring twice he was released by the club on 1 May 2012.[13]

On 30 May 2012 Hughes-Mason signed for Conference South side Welling United,[14] and would go on to earn promotion to the Conference in his first season with the club. On 3 December 2013 he signed on loan for Concord Rangers.[15] He later played for Hayes & Yeading United on loan before a short stint with Maidstone United. In the summer of 2014 he joined Leatherhead.[16]

International career

Hughes-Mason was born in the London Borough of Hackney, and is of Antigua and Barbudan, Dominica and Grenadian descent.[17] In August 2012, he was called up to the Antigua and Barbuda under-20 squad, who he qualifies through his mother, for the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship qualifiers against Dominica, Grenada and Curaçao.[17] However, when Hughes-Mason reported to the games, he was unable to play due to a mix-up regarding eligibility as he did not meet the age criteria.[18]

Personal life

During his spell with Welling United, Hughes-Mason divided his time studying sports coaching at the University of East London and coaching football at St. Francis' Catholic Primary School in Stratford, London.[2]
