Kingsmead Stadium situated in Kingsmead, Canterbury was built on top of a rubbish dump site. It opened for football on 30 August 1958 and was also used as an athletics track.

It was host to Canterbury City F.C., Canterbury Greyhounds and the Canterbury Crusaders (speedway) speedway team from 1968 to 1987.

In 1977 the speedway promoters Johnnie Hoskins and Wally Mawdsley had to go to court in order to keep the track open after complaints of noise from local residents. However, the team were forced to disband in 1987 when the Canterbury Council refused to renew the lease.

Greyhound racing continued until 1999 before being re-developed for residential housing.
