CKY is an American heavy metal band from West Chester, Pennsylvania. The group was originally formed in 1998 by vocalist and guitarist Deron Miller, guitarist Chad I Ginsburg and drummer Jess Margera.[1] Miller and Margera were recording under the name Oil (as well as performing with live bassist Ryan Bruni) when they met Ginsburg, who was then working as an engineer; he was later added as a guitarist, marking the official formation of CKY.[2] The trio released its debut album Volume 1 in 1999.[1]

Bruni was fired from the band in 2000; he was replaced by Vernon Zaborowski after Ginsburg briefly took over on bass.[3] After signing with The Island Def Jam Music Group, CKY released its second album Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild in 2002.[1] The band toured extensively in promotion of the release, before Zaborowski was also fired in June 2004.[4] Shortly after the release of An Answer Can Be Found in June 2005, former All That Remains bassist Matt Deis was announced as Zaborowski's replacement.[5]

After signing with Roadrunner Records in 2006, CKY released its fourth album Carver City in 2009.[6][1] The following May it was announced that Deis, who had performed on Carver City, had left the group.[7] He was later replaced by Matt "Matty J" Janaitis, while Rob "Murry" Valeno joined as a touring member on keyboards.[8] Compilation album B-Sides & Rarities was released in 2011,[9] but by the end of the year frontman Miller had left the band.[10]

CKY returned for a number of shows in early 2012 with Year Long Disaster frontman Daniel Davies in place of Miller.[11] The group remained largely inactive until 2014, when Miller and Ginsburg attempted a reconciliation,[12] although ultimately it did not come to fruition.[13] Davies later returned to the band for a live show in 2015, which also saw the return of bassist Deis.[14][15]
