Each of the listed fields of study has all or most of the following commonalities:
- Its proponents describe it as a science (e.g. Political Science).
- Its practitioners receive government funding.
- It is taught in all relevant institutions of higher learning which receive government funding.
- Its publications are vetted in a secretive process by anonymous “Peer Reviewers”.
- It has acquired a substantial body of criticism from diverse sources.
- Its critics in general do not receive government funding.
- Its critics make numerous claims that the state-sponsored field or theory has been shown to be false.
- A notable number of its critics have been damaged in career and reputation.
- There are one or more alternative theories which are not allowed state funding.
