The following is a list of institutions of higher education in Bihar, India.

Universities

In Bihar there are fourteen state universities, nine (seven working and two proposed) central universities, two deemed universities, and five private university proposed.

Since 2005 Bihar has experienced many reforms. Many world-class institutions are developing in the state. Nalanda University and the proposed Vikramshila University will attract students from across the globe. To improve skill development, the central government has decided to build India's first national skill development university in Bihar. Bihar's government has also given its consent to open five private universities.

Institutes of state importance

Engineering colleges

As of April 2016, there are four central government, 13 government engineering colleges in the public sector, and 17 engineering colleges in the private sector in Bihar, including government-aided BIT, Patna and Women's Institute of Technology, Darbhanga. The overall annual intake of these technical institutes offering engineering education to students in Bihar is approx 9000.[20][21]
