Sports teams
Marshall uses the fictitious Redhawk as its nickname. The former nickname was the Redskin, but it was changed due to respect for Native Americans and their spiritual beliefs. Marshall High School went a couple of years without a mascot, and then the student body voted in the Spring of 2005 in favor of changing the mascot. The school is most well known for its football program having won the 1996 and 2009 state championship.
Marshall now competes in the Interstate Eight Athletic Conference.[1]
