MeZolith is a comic strip written by Ben Haggarty and illustrated by Adam Brockbank which ran in the weekly British children's anthology comic The DFC in 2008-2009.

Summary

MeZolith is a coming-of-age saga set over ten millennia ago in pre-insular Britain. The story revolves around Poika, a young member of the Kansa tribe growing up amidst the struggles of the harsh life of hunter gatherers. As he transitions to adulthood, he must ponder on the wisdom of his elders, told through ancient myths and fairytales.

Themes

Haggarty used his extensive archaeological, ethnographic and anthropological research into fairy tales, ancient myths and the Mesolithic Period to present his "conjectural ideas about our ancestors and the oldest stories".[1]

He also mentions incorporating into the story some archeological evidence such as one of the Danish burial sites near Vedbaek, and antler headdresses found at Star Carr.

Young woman buried with infant on a swan’s wing, with a necklace of deer teeth next to them.[2][3]

Publication

MeZolith was Times' graphic novel of the year in 2010.[citation needed]

Paul Gravett said it is "one of the finest all-ages fantasies in all of modern comics."[4]
