Miranpur or Meerapur is a town and a nagar panchayat in Muzaffarnagar district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Miranpur is noted for Pandav chowk (from MAHABHARATA times), and for well known Bhabra mandir (Shetala Mata Mandir of village Jamalpur Bangar), which is located 2 miles from miranpur pandav chowk.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Miranpur had a population of 26,101. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Miranpur has an average literacy rate of 53%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 45%. In Miranpur, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Geography

Founded by Sayyed Miran in medieval period after his name.Sayyed Miran was the grandson of a military general S. Masood alias Hussamuddin in King Akbar's rule. Sayyed Miran was a mansabdar of five thousand army in King Aurangzeb's empire. The town is located in southern Muzaffarnagar District, between Jansath and Bijnor at the junction of the Delhi Pauri National highway and Panipat Khatima State Highway. Muzaffarnagar, the district headquarters, is about 33 km north of Miranpur.

Economics

Miranpur is famous for jaggery (gur) production which is made from sugarcane by heating in big pans in kohloo. 90% farmers of Miranpur are engaged in sugarcane production. Tikaula sugar mill gave boom to Miranpur economy. Miranpur is primarily farm land, with large mango orchards being the most significant crop.[citation needed] Miranpur is also famous for its wedding Brass Band parties, which also serve during religious processions. Alfa Computers and Popular Band from Miranpur is very famous, 1st Computer centre in miranpur Alfa Computers 1993.
