National Council of Churches in India or NCCI is an ecumenical organisation of the Protestant and Orthodox Churches in India.[5] NCCI is a member of ACT Development, a global alliance of churches and related agencies.
The organisation is considered to be fairly liberal, adopting a relatively tolerant position on homosexuality, which it considers "a natural or genetical reality".[6]
For operational efficiency, the NCCI works through seven thematic commissions related to the objectives of the organisation, as well as the agencies and autonomous bodies that have evolved from the NCCI
- Commissions.[7]
- Commission on Policy, Governance and Public Witness,
- Commission on Unity, Mission, Evangelism,
- Commission on Justice, Peace, Creation,
- Commission On Communications and Relations,
- Commission On Adivasis and Tribals,
- Commission On Dalits,
- Commission on Youth,
In addition to the Commissions of the NCCI, the following organisations have evolved out of the NCCI and operate independently,
- Agencies[8]
- All India Sunday School Association (AISSA), Secunderabad,
- Christian Institute for the Study of Religion and Society (CISRS), Bangalore,
