Ngāti Maru is a Māori iwi of inland Taranaki in New Zealand. They are descended from Maruwharanui, a son of Hotunui. Te Upoko o te Whenua Marae is the iwi's marae near Tarata.[1] The iwi has two trusts, Te Runanga o Ngati Maru (Taranaki) Trust (which replaced Ngati Maru Wharanui Pukehou Trust) and Ngati Maru (Taranaki) Fisheries Trust.[2] The settlement of Purangi is within their area.[1]
Another iwi named Ngāti Maru is based in Thames (Hauraki). They are descended from Maruwharanui's brother Marutūāhu. The descendants of a third brother, Marukōpiri, settled on the Whanganui river.
