Purulia Sadar East subdivision is a subdivision of the Purulia district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Purulia municipality and seven community development blocks: Manbazar–I, Manbazar–II, Bundwan, Purulia–I, Purulia–II, Hura and Puncha. The seven blocks contain 62 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Purulia.

Area

Apart from the Purulia municipality, the subdivision contains rural areas of 62 gram panchayats under seven community development blocks: Manbazar–I, Manbazar–II, Bundwan, Purulia–I, Purulia–II, Hura and Puncha.[1] There is no urban area under these seven blocks.[2]

Blocks

Manbazar–I block

Rural area under Manbazar–I block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Bamni Majhihira, Chandra–Pairachali, Gopalnagar, Manbazar, Bhalubasa, Jitujuri, Baramasya–Ramnagar, Bisri, Dhanarah and Kamta Jangidiri.[1] Manbazar, Puncha and Kenda police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Manbazar.[4]

Manbazar–II block

Rural area under Manbazar–II block consists of seven gram panchayats, viz. Ankro Barakadam, Bari–Jagda, Buribandh, Kumari, Bargoria–Jamtoria, Boro Jaragara and Dighi.[1] Boro police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Jamtoria.[4]

Bandwan block

Rural area under Bandwan block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Bandwan, Dhadka, Kuchia, Kumra, Chirudih, Gurur, Kuilapal and Supudih.[1] Banduan police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Banduan.[4]

Purulia–I block

Rural area under Purulia–I block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Bhandarpuara–Chipida, Dimdiha, Lagda, Durku, Manara, Chakaltore, Garafusra and Sonaijuri.[1] Kenda, Purulia Muffasil, Arsha and Purulia Town police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Bhatbandh.[4]

Purulia–II block

Rural area under Purulia–II block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Agoya–Narra, Chharradumdumi, Hutmura, Belma, Ghonga, Pindra, Bhangra, Golamara and Raghabpur.[1] Purulia Muffasil and Purulia Town police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Bibekananda Nagar.[4]

Hura block

Rural area under Hura block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Chatumadar, Jabarrah, Ladhurka, Rakhera–Bispuria, Daldali, Kalabani, Lakhanpur, Hura, Keshergarh and Maguria–Lalpur.[1] Hura police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Hura.[4]

Puncha block

Rural area under Puncha block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Bagda, Chirudih, Lakhra, Pirrah, Chandra, Jambad, Napara, Puncha, Kenda and Panipathar.[1] Puncha and Kenda police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Puncha.[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:[5]

  • The municipal area of Purulia, the Purulia–II block, and the gram panchayats of Bhandar Purachipida and Manara under the Purulia–I block will together form the Purulia assembly constituency of West Bengal.
  • The other six gram panchayats under the Purulia–I block will be part of the Balarampur assembly constituency.
  • The Manbazar–II block and the Bundwan block will be part of the Bandwan assembly constituency.
  • The Manbazar–I block, the Puncha block and the gram panchayats of Chatumadar, Daldali and Manguira Lalpur under the Hura block will together form the Manbazar assembly constituency.
  • The other seven gram panchayats under the Hura block will be part of the domain of the Kashipur assembly constituency.
  • The Bandwan constituency and the Manbazar constituency will be reserved for Scheduled tribes (ST) candidates.
  • The constituencies of Purulia, Balarampur, Manbazar and Kashipur will be assembly segments of the Purulia (Lok Sabha constituency).
  • The Bandwan constituency will be an assembly segment of the Jhargram (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for ST candidates.
