Quarters 1, Fort Myer is a site significant in part for its association with Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur.[3]
It was built on Fort Myer's ridge, was completed on 27 May 1899. The historic dwelling has been the residence of Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army since 1908, including Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur.[citation needed]
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1972.[3][4]
