Early life
She was born in Paducah, Kentucky, while her father, Bruce Willis, was filming In Country. She was named after British author Rumer Godden.[1] Her mother, actress Demi Moore, hired a cameraman to videotape her birth.[2] She has two younger sisters, Scout LaRue Willis (born 1991), and Tallulah Belle Willis (born 1994), as well as two younger paternal half-sisters from her father's marriage to model Emma Heming, Mabel Ray Willis (born 2012) and Evelyn Penn Willis (born 2014).[3]
Raised in Hailey, Idaho,[1] Willis enrolled as a freshman at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. In January 2004, she enrolled as a sophomore at Wildwood Secondary School in Los Angeles, California.[2] She attended the University of Southern California for one semester before dropping out.
Career
In 1995, Willis made her film debut alongside her mother in Now and Then. The following year she appeared in Striptease (1996). She has worked with her father twice: in The Whole Nine Yards in 2000 and Hostage in 2005.
In 2008, Willis ventured into the role of spokesperson for Ocean Pacific.[4] That same year, she was featured in the comedy The House Bunny[5] and the horror film From Within. In 2009, she co-starred in Sorority Row. It was announced she joined the cast of the independent film Wild Cherry, starring opposite Tania Raymonde and Kristin Cavallari.[6]
Willis' television credits include guest appearances on Miss Guided, Army Wives, CSI: NY, Medium, 90210, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Hawaii Five-0 and Workaholics.
In May 2013, it was announced that Willis would portray Zoe, an organizer in a worldwide charity, in the fourth season of Pretty Little Liars.[7]
Rumer gave a standout performance in the film The Odd Way Home where she takes on the gritty role of Maya. Huffington post raves Rumer "delivers an exquisite performance as Maya, a young woman, battered and bruised and at the very end of her rope, who meets Duncan, an autistic young man perfectly portrayed by Chris Marquette. She transforms from a broken and beaten victim into a radiant singer. (www.TheOddWayHome.com)
On September 21, 2015, Rumer will be starring as Roxy in "Chicago" on Broadway.
Dancing with the Stars
On February 24, 2015, Willis was announced as one of the celebrities to compete on season 20 of Dancing with the Stars. Her professional partner was Valentin Chmerkovskiy.[8] Her performance during week 1 earned her the highest score of the night (32 out of 40), and her performance during two rounds of competition in week 8 landed her two perfect scores.[9]
On May 19, 2015, Willis and Chmerkovskiy were crowned the season's champions, winning over singer and actor Riker Lynch and army veteran Noah Galloway who took second and third place, respectively.[10] Willis will join partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and other Dancing with the Stars professionals on the 40-city "Dancing with the Stars: Perfect 10 Tour" during the summer of 2015.
