Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Subang Utama (or SMKSU) is a secondary school situated in Subang Jaya, Malaysia. It was formerly known as Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Subang Jaya 2.

History
The school was one of the earliest secondary school available in Subang Jaya, when it was also known as SMK Subang Jaya 2. The school is located at Jalan SS18/1A, which is west of Subang Jaya and off Tujuan Avenue (Persiaran Tujuan). The school code is BEA 8614.
Campus construction began in 1987. The first batch of morning session students began on 4 December 1989. Those students took up two blocks of the campus (C Block and D Block) as the other two blocks were occupied temporarily by students from Sekolah Rendah SS19 (SS19 Primary School). Most students come from the area of SS18.
The campus is approximately 130 acres (0.53 km2) wide with 3.9 acres (16,000 m2) of track and field, a canteen, an assembly area and four blocks. A single-story block consisting of four workshops (Bengkel Kemahiran Hidup) was built in 1993 for the Kemahiran Hidup subject (Electrical and Electronic, Pipe and Plumbing, Mechanical, and Technical Drawing).
In the same year, five science labs were operational. The science labs include two for the lower secondary cohort, one physics lab, one biology lab and one chemistry lab. Due to shortage of classrooms and an increasing population throughout the years, these science labs became temporary classrooms for Secondary Four students (Floating Classes).
Five years later in 1998, construction began for the school's first Surau. The old makeshift Surau was closed and the Surau was opened to all Muslims, including the public. Another single-storey classroom block was built to accommodate the increasing student population.
F Block has four classrooms, and was usually allocated to Secondary Five classes.
In 2003, the volleyball court between D Block and B Block was torn down for the construction of a two-storey Computer/IT Block. The block remained vacant for a few years, and later was only used for teaching purposes. A new volleyball court, along with a basketball court, were built next to A Block.
In 2003, construction of the multi-purpose hall was started. Many alumni criticised the building as it was not a proper solid wall, with students still getting wet inside when it rained. Then, the school was among the only secondary schools in Subang Jaya without a proper hall.
The five blocks (including the single-storied one) were named Anggerik, Bakawali, Cempaka, Dahlia and Flora. The construction of the fifth block, Block E, was completed in 2009.

Parent-Teacher Association
The Parent-Teacher Association of SMK Subang Utama contributes to the school financially and in terms of support. In 2009, the school hall which was once known as Dewan Sumbangsih was renamed Dewan Perdana PIBG after the Parent-Teacher Association for their efforts in upgrading the school facilities, particularly the school hall.
Sport Houses
There are five sport houses which include all students from Forms One through Five. The sport houses are named after the five legendary Malacca warriors. The sport houses, which compete in the school's annual Sports Day competitions, are Hang Tuah (red), Hang Kasturi (green), Hang Lekir (orange), Hang Jebat (yellow) and Hang Lekiu (blue). These sport houses were used until the year 2012. In the year 2013, the school reorganised the students into 4 sport houses due to the decreasing school population. The four new houses are Columbia (red), Atlantis (yellow), Challenger (blue) and Discovery (green). The new houses are named after the American space shuttles.

Controversies
In June 2008, SMKSU came under the spotlight when the school board member decide to take action if the organisers of the school's annual ex-prefects reunion invite the Pakatan Rakyat Assemblyman for Subang Jaya, Hannah Yeoh. Yeoh was a former head-prefect of the school.[1]
