Take Note is a grassroots movement of volunteers in Indiana, USA focused on protecting entertainers, DJs, bartenders, wait staff, and other employees from secondhand smoke. While a majority of workers in Indiana are currently protected from secondhand smoke, employees in most casinos, bars, and clubs are not protected by current laws.[1]
The Take Note movement started in 2007 as a response to the need for equal protection for the Indiana workforce. Under Indiana’s current laws, most nightclubs, bars, and entertainment venues are not smoke-free.[citation needed] While recent polling shows that three out of four Hoosiers support a law in their community that would eliminate tobacco smoke from all indoor workplaces, the status quo remains that smoking in bars and nightclubs is acceptable.[2] Take Note is a movement attempting to rally the majority in Indiana to challenge that status quo.
