The Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC(M)) is a political party in Tamil Nadu. It was launched by G K Moopanar in 1996 by breaking away from the Indian National Congress protesting the decision of the party high command to form an alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). After the death of Moopanar in 2001, his son G K Vasan became the party president.[1] In 2002, TMC was merged with the Indian National Congress.[2][1] Again on 28th Nov 2014 G K Vasan revived Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC(M)) after breaking away from Indian National Congress on 3rd Nov 2014 protesting the party's Working Committee was acting against the interests of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and Indian National Congress not having strong stands on Tamil Nadu issues.[3]
