Techland is a Polish video game developer, founded in 1991 by Paweł Marchewka. They are best known for developing Call of Juarez and its prequel Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Western-themed first-person shooters. They also developed Dead Island, a first-person RPG survival horror video game, and Dying Light, another survival horror video game.[1]
The company is headquartered in Ostrow Wielkopolski has offices in Wrocław, Warsaw, and Vancouver.[2]

History
Techland debuted as a computer software distributor. The first internally developed product, Crime Cities, was published in 2000. The date marks the consolidation of the core development team whose collaborative efforts resulted in the creation of the proprietary Chrome Engine in the year 2003. The first game based on the in-house engine which established Techland as a widely recognized software developer was a sci-fi first person shooter, Chrome. The critical acclaim and commercial success of the original title were the grounds for the prequel entitled Chrome: Specforce, released in 2005. Alongside the first person shooters, Techland developed rally simulation games Xpand Rally and Xpand Rally Xtreme. In the year 2006 a VW licensed arcade driving game, GTI Racing, was added to Techland's development team portfolio.
Since its first appearance in the year 2003, Chrome Engine, has been under constant development and in 2006 it evolved into ChromeEngine 4, which provided compatibility for the PlayStation 3. The potential of the SDK is demonstrated in the latest of Techland's titles, Call of Juarez. The game received worldwide recognition and reinforced Techland's position. Call of Juarez is currently the company's most recognized product and the first title to fully support DirectX 10. Techland also known for developing the open world survival horror game, Dead Island in 2011 and its sequel, Riptide in 2013. While Dead Island received generally positive reviews, Riptide received mixed reviews from critics.
Techland also released Dying Light, a first-person survival horror game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Originally scheduled for a 2014 release, the game was later delayed to January 2015. Upon release, the game received generally positive reviews from critics and the public. As a result, an expansion for the game entitled Dying Light: The Following was released in February 2016 to very positive reviews. Currently, the company's future game in-development is Hellraid, which was initially put on hold due to focusing on the post-release of Dying Light.
In May 2016, CEO Pawel Marchewka revealed that the company was working on two AAA projects, with one of them being a new intellectual property. The teams at Wroclaw and Warszawa will be the lead developers for the two projects, while the Vancouver studio will provide them additional support. Their total budget is $77 million.[3]
