History
It was cast in 1899. It was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1899, and Exposition Universelle (1900), Paris, where it won a gold medal.[2] It was purchased by the Association for Public Art (formerly the Fairmount Park Art Association) for $6,000. It was dedicated on December 10, 1903. [3]
A reduced edition was produced by the Gorham Foundry;[4] an example is in the Amon Carter Museum.[5]
