History

Thiess first commenced operations in Indonesia in 1972 through a partnership arrangement which saw Thiess Bros Pty Ltd acquired 50% of Petrosea. In 1972, an economic downturn in Australia meant fewer contracts and made Thiess look towards opportunities abroad and create an International Division to explore overseas opportunities.

By 1975, Thiess acquired the remaining shareholding and the company name was changed to PT Thiess Bros.

In 1984 Thiess Bros operations were acquired by C.S.R. in a corporate takeover. CSR were not interested in the overseas operations and the Indonesian operations were sold off to Leighton Contractors and Thiess withdrew its operations with the operating licence reverted to PT Petrosea.

On the 17 November 1988, PT. Thiess Contractors Indonesia was re-established and incorporated. On the 17 November 1988 PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia was registered. TCI was established to provide mining and construction services to Indonesia’s growing industry sectors.
