Thomas Monk
Sir Thomas Monke (1570–1627) of Potheridge, Devon, was Member of Parliament for Camelford, Cornwall, in 1626. He was the father of George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle (1608–70), KG.
Origins
Monke was the son of Anthony Monke of Potheridge, Devon and was baptised at Ashwater Devon on 9 April 1570.
Career
He matriculated at King's College, Cambridge at Easter 1587 and was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1590. He was knighted. In 1626 he was elected Member of Parliament for Camelford.[2]
Marriage & progeny
He married Elizabeth Smith, a daughter by his first marriage of Sir George Smith (d.1619) of Madworthy, near Exeter,[3] Devon, a merchant who served as MP for Exeter in 1604, was three times Mayor of Exeter and was Exeter's richest citizen, possessing 25 manors.[4] By Elizabeth he had progeny including:

Death
Monke died at the age of about 57.
