Tigran Kotanjian (Armenian: Տիգրան Քոթանջյան; born September 1, 1981)[1] is an Armenian chess Grandmaster.[2] He won the 74th Armenian Chess Championship in 2014.[3] On the September 2009 FIDE list, he had an Elo rating of 2553,[4] ranking him number twelve in Armenia.[5]
Kotanjian won the Dubai Chess Open in 2009[6] and Karen Asrian Memorial in 2010. In 2011, he tied for 2nd–3rd with Kirill Stupak in the 4th Beirut Open tournament.[7] In the same year he won the 4th Karen Asrian Memorial in Jermuk.[8]
He received his International Master title in 2003 and Grandmaster title in 2006.[4] In the September 2009 FIDE rating list he is ranked 396th in the world among active players.[4]
Notable games
- Karen Asrian vs. Tigran Kotanjian (2007) After regular play in the Armenian Championships, in the best of three tie-breaker Kotanjian lost two straight to Asrian. In both the 23 January game[9] and the 27 January game[10] Kotanjian used the Sicilian Defense.
