The Tigrinya people or the Tigrinyas are the people who inhabit central Eritrea, an area spanning the regions of Debub, Maekel, as well as the Northern Red Sea Region and Anseba.

Religion
Their religion affiliation is predominately Coptic Orthodox, with the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church being the major church. However minority religions among the Tigrinya are Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The former having been introduced by the Italians near the end of the 19th century. There also includes a minority of Muslims.[1]
Languages
The majority of the Tigrinya speak the northern local dialect of the Afro-Asiatic language, Tigrinya, that exists in Eritrea. Although minorities in the Anseba and Northern Red Sea Region speak the Tigre language as a second language.
