Tomás Ruiz González
Born March 23, 1963

Tomás José Ruíz González (March 23, 1963 - ) is the current Director General of the Mexican Lottery (Lotería Nacional),lawyer, and member of the New Alliance Party of which he was president from November 28 of 2006 until August 28 of 2007.

Biography

Tomás Ruiz holds a law degree from the Escuela Libre de Derecho, has a diploma from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico and a Master's from Columbia University. He has held important positions in the Bank of Mexico and the Ministry of Finance for which he was twice the Undersecretary of Finance and Chairman of the Tax Administration Service. He was also a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party(PRI).

In 2000 President Vicente Fox appointed him General Manager of Banobras. This non-PRI position conflicted with the leadership of his party and he resigned in 2003 to be nominated by the PRI as candidate for Federal Deputy of the LIX Legislature of the Mexican Congress.

He worked alongside PRI Coordinator Elba Esther Gordillo in the House of Representatives when the conflict between the PRI and the national party leader, Roberto Madrazo Pintado began. After the dismissal of Gordillo, Gonzales left the House. In 2004, he took the position as head of the National Lottery and broke ties with the PRI.

On November 29 of 2006 he was elected President of New Covenant replacing Miguel Angel Jimenez Godinez.
