Ann Marie Fleming

Ann Marie Fleming is an independent Canadian filmmaker, writer, and visual artist who was born in Okinawa, in 1962, of Chinese and Australian parentage. She has a B.A. in English (hon) from the University of British Columbia, a B.F.A. (diploma in animation) from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and the Open University, and a B.F.A. (interdisciplinary) from Simon Fraser University.

She was a writer/director resident at the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto and an artist in residence at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and a graduate film advisor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She co-founded Global Mechanic, an animation/film/design production house, in Vancouver. Ann Marie also happens to be the great-granddaughter of the legendary magician, acrobat and vaudeville performer Long Tack Sam, and in 2003 completed a documentary film based on his life.
