Arden Myrin (/məˈrn/; born December 10, 1973) is an American actress and comedian, best known for her work on the television shows Chelsea Lately, @Midnight, Fresh Off the Boat and MADtv.

Myrin has appeared in many films, including Bachelorette, Kinsey and What Women Want. Notable television credits include guest roles on Orange Is The New Black, Fresh Off the Boat, Key and Peele, Inside Amy Schumer, Hung,Friends and Reno 911!.

Myrin has been a frequent panelist on E!'s Chelsea Lately roundtable, appearing over 100 times . She has also appeared twice as a guest on internet podcast Two Jacks in the Hole and twice appeared on the USA Network show Psych as a stalker with an attraction for older men.

Early life and education

Myrin was born on December 10, 1973 in Little Compton, Rhode Island, a seaside fishing village. Her father was an accountant, and her mother was a real estate agent. She has an older brother, Alarik. As a child, she staged her neighborhood plays, and she enjoyed seeing Annie on Broadway. Myrin attended the Friends Academy in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, where she graduated in 1988. She then attended Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts for high school. She is of Swedish and Norwegian heritage.[1]

Afterwards, Myrin attended Colorado College, a small liberal arts school, where she received a degree in theater and studio arts and she was elected commencement speaker at her graduation. During one college break, Myrin began to study improvisational comedy and worked as an intern on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 1993–94, where she admits she "mostly ran the Xerox machine".

Career

Soon after graduation, Myrin briefly moved to Chicago when she became a member of the Improv Olympic and later re-located to Los Angeles where she was part of the same group. One of her memorable standup comedian acts included a section of her own life experiences called “Straight Outta Lil' Compton”. Myrin also trained with the L.A. Comedy troupe The Groundlings.

Myrin returned to New York and appeared in commercials while working as a waitress and taking acting classes. She caught a break when two casting directors sent an agent to see her newly minted stand-up comedy act, which netted her an agency contract.

MADtv

Myrin officially joined the cast of MADtv in 2005 as a repertory performer for the eleventh season and remained with the show until it was canceled in 2009. Her characters included "Crafty Gal Kendra" and Alana from "Holly Meadow Estates". Her impersonations included Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jillian Barberie, Katherine Heigl, Tara Reid, Cindy McCain, Alex Borstein (as Lois Griffin from Family Guy), Kourtney Kardashian, Lo Bosworth, Heidi Montag, Goldie Hawn, Ali Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Mayim Bialik, Lily Allen, Jamie Lynn Spears, Emily Osment, and Portia de Rossi. She also played Melinda Calkins, a GUYCO (A parody of GEICO) customer, who appears in a GUYCO commercial telling the story of when she was in a car accident and Elmo from Sesame Street is hired as the celebrity who helps tell her story. Melinda says she was on her way to her mother's funeral when a truck hit her car head on. Elmo says "Elmo say that must have given you a boo boo!" and laughs. Melinda then says that her father flew through the windshield and hit his head on an iron fence and the airbag broke her sister's head and they're still looking for it. Elmo replies, "When Elmo loses things, Elmo retrace his steps!", and then laughs again. Melinda says that her insurance is GUYCO and Elmo says that he's going to count the street sign just as the police comes by with a body bag on a stretcher. The sign said "311" as Elmo reads it. Elmo then says, "Elmo love to read!", and laughs yet again. Melinda apologizes and says that the accident just happened and asks if they can do it later and Elmo says "Tickle Elmo!" and laughs. Melinda is so annoyed with Elmo laughing when her parents are dead that she throws him into a moving car, which slams on its brakes, and Melinda runs away. The scene then switches to Elmo being the GUYCO customer and Carlos Mencia (played by Johnny A. Sanchez) is the celebrity who's going to help tell his story. Elmo begins to regain consciousness and coughs and asks what happened and Carlos tells him about the previous commercial. Elmo is so annoyed that the best celebrity they can give him is Carlos Mencia and says that he would rather have George Lopez, Cheech Marin or Wilmer Valderrama. Carlos is so annoyed with Elmo that, when Elmo asks him to help him up, he tears his head off and throws it into the street. Elmo's head then hits the windshield of a car, which happens to belong to Mo'Nique (played by Erica Ash), who was in the first part of the GUYCO commercial. As Mo'Nique steps out of her car and sees Elmo's head on the windshield, despite being able to stand, she says that she's paralyzed, she's got whiplash and her back hurts. She plans to sue Carlos for throwing it just as Carlos runs away.
