War comics are a genre of comic books that focus on stories of individuals or units in combat with varying fidelity to historical accuracy. Although several superhero comics have crossed paths with the genre (especially during and after World War II), and human conflict in general is a popular theme in comics, war comics tend to focus on the bleak experiences of soldiers and on themes such as camaraderie under fire, sacrifice and the paradoxical nature of warfare. Anti-war comics dealing with the experiences of people at arms can also be said to fall under that category. Popular settings for war comics published in North America and the United Kingdom have included the European Theatre of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. War comics have included large numbers of titles of both anthologies as well as recurring characters in eponymous titles.
