Gale Fitzgerald was a versatile athlete who competed in two Olympic pentathlons, winning silver medal in 1975 at the Pan American Games. In addition, in 1970 she was AIAW champion in the 440 yards , and ran on four world-record setting 4×440 yard relay teams in 1970-71. Fitzgerald attended Montclair State College. Fitzgerald attended Montclair State, attaining a Masters' Degree, all while training for the 1976 Olympics.

Fitzgerald retired from athletics and sold life insurance for 10 years, then turned to investment banking, after the 1980 Olympic boycott. Soon after learning to invest in others companies, she decided to invest in her own companies. Working for Film Star Releasing, shethen formed Global Media, and attracted over $500 million in pre-paid advertising credits. In addition, she was a movie producer and later President of Sunset Hill Productions.
