James R. Rettig

James R. Rettig (born 1950) is an American librarian and educator. He graduated with his Master's degree in English from Marquette University and a master's in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.[1]

Rettig has worked in leadership and public service at the College of William and Mary, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Dayton and Murray State University. Rettig served as the University Librarian at the University of Richmond from 1998 to 2012.[2] He is currently the Library Director of the Nimitz Library at the United States Naval Academy.[3]

Rettig was President of the American Library Association from 2008 to 2009.[4] He has served on the ALA Executive Board the ALA Council and has served as chair of the ALA Committee on Organization and its Publishing Committee. Rettig is a past president of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA).
