List of Trump administration dismissals and resignations
Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found.
Many political appointees of Donald Trump, the 45th and current President of the United States, have resigned or been dismissed. The record-setting turnover rate in the Trump Administration has been noted in various publications.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
Several Trump appointees, including National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price have the shortest-service tenures in the history of their respective offices.[lower-alpha 1]
On September 18, 2019, a reporter asked Trump about the lack of stability in his administration, particularly in DHS. He replied: “We have acting people. The reason they are acting is because I’m seeing how I like them, and I’m liking a lot of them very, very much. There are people who have done a bad job, and I let them go. If you call that turmoil, I don’t call that turmoil. I say that is being smart. That’s what we do.”[10]
For comprehensiveness, the list below includes, in addition to dismissals and resignations, routine job changes such as promotions (e.g. Gina Haspel from CIA Deputy Director to Director), officials moving to a comparable position (e.g. John F. Kelly from Secretary of Homeland Security to Chief of Staff), and acting or temporary officials being replaced by permanent ones. The list does not include many lower level positions, however, such as that of executive director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, Matthew Doherty, dismissed in November, 2019,[11] without a replacement to lead the council that was created in 1987. But some less prominent officials are listed because their departure was newsworthy.

On March 10, 2017, Attorney General Jeff Sessions requested the resignations of 46 United States Attorneys.[181] Trump declined to accept the resignations of Dana Boente, who was serving as Acting Deputy Attorney General, and Rod Rosenstein, whom Trump had selected to become Deputy Attorney General.[182][183][184] Trump also allowed Deirdre M. Statements from Trump and the White House suggested he had been dismissed to ease the "pressure" on Trump due to the Russia investigation.[188][189][190] Later that month he arranged for a friend to tell the press about a memo he had written after a February 14 private meeting with the president. It said Trump had asked him to end the FBI's investigation into Michael Flynn, the former National Security Advisor. His dismissal, the memo, and Comey's subsequent Congressional testimony were interpreted by some commentators as evidence of obstruction of justice and became part of a widening investigation by Robert Mueller, the Special Counsel appointed to probe Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.[191] |

McCabe denied he had ever been dishonest and charged that his firing was politically motivated.[197][198][199] | |
