Arabeem Ottakom P. Madhavan Nayarum in Oru Marubhoomikkadha (English: "The Arab, the Camel, and P. Madhavan Nair in a Desert Tale"), also titled as Oru Marubhoomikkadha, abbreviated AOPM, is a 2011 Malayalam romantic comedy film directed by Priyadarshan.[2] The film stars Mohanlal, Mukesh, Lakshmi Rai and Bhavana in pivotal roles. Plot summary

P. Madhavan Nair (Mohanlal) is a middle-aged man who has come to toil in the deserts of the Middle East to fulfil his responsibilities to his family of two younger sisters who must be married, and a father whose debt has to be paid. He has neither found the time to get married nor to have a life of his own.

Thoma (Nedumudi Venu) is a rich man living in the city with his daughter Eliana (Bhavana).

Eliana wants to run away with her boyfriend. For this she needs money. So she fakes her kidnapping and demands money from her father. Her plan is spoiled due to Madhavan Nair. She asks Madhavan Nair and his friend Abdu Kupleri (Mukesh) to cooperate with her, otherwise she will get him arrested. Both of them reluctantly agrees. Together they do it one more time. This time they ask for more money.

Eliana's uncle Jose (Maniyanpilla Raju) is a greedy man. He is planning to steal all the ransom money. He makes a deal with a local gangster to accomplish this.

Ultimately, there is a real kidnap of Eliana carried out by Jose and the gangster. Madhavan Nair saves Eliana from them. This leads to Jose and the gangster being arrested. Madhavan Nair and Abdu are appreciated by the police for this service.

Cast

Production

Shooting for the film began in Abu Dhabi in March 2011.[4] On 16 March 2011, while filming in the desert in Abu Dhabi, Canadian/Hollywood movie director James Cameron visited their set and had a 3-hour long chat with Mohanlal, Priyadarshan and the rest of the crew.[5]

The initial title of the film was Arabeem Ottakom P. Madhavan Nayarum but later the title was first changed to Oru Maruboomikadha and finally to the current title. In the Gulf the film was released under the title Oru Marubhoomikadha. This was following tremendous pressure from NRIs in the Gulf.[6][7] There were reports that the Arabs were unhappy with the initial title and also hinted at banning the release of the film in the Middle East.[8]

Release and reception

The movie got mixed reviews. Rediff gave the film an average rating of 2 out of 5 .[9] According to Sify.com, the film was a "hit" at the box office.[10]
