Reginald Davies was an English football wing half who made over 330 appearances in the Football League for Portsmouth, Brentford and Mansfield Town.[1]

Career

Early years

A wing half, Davies began his career in non-league football with local side Sutton Town.[2]

Portsmouth

Davies began his league career at Division Three South side Portsmouth, captaining the side which rose from the basement to Division One in four seasons.[1] He departed Fratton Park in the summer of 1927,[1] after making over 200 league appearances for Pompey.[2]

Brentford

Aged almost 30, Davies dropped back down to the Division Three South to sign for Brentford in the summer of 1927 for a £250 fee.[1] Despite his age, he was a virtual ever-present for the team at wing half and played in all 42 league games of the 1929/30 season,[3] when the Bees won all 21 home games at Griffin Park to set a record which has never been equalled.[4] He dropped down into the reserves in 1931, helping the side win the 1931/32 London Combination.[1] Davies left the Bees in the summer of 1932, having made 123 appearances for the club.[1]

Mansfield Town

Davies returned to his native Derbyshire and saw out his career with a spell at Division Three North side Mansfield Town.[1]
